注：蘭斯頓·休斯(1902-1967)在美國文壇，尤其是黑人文學(xué)方面，是一個舉足輕重的人物。他的作品涉及小說、戲劇、散文、歷史、傳記等各種文體, 但主要以詩歌著稱, 被譽為“黑人民族的桂冠詩人”，著有《榮耀的羯鼓》。
1960年代黑人領(lǐng)袖馬丁·路德·金那篇膾炙人口的《我有個夢想》跟休斯的關(guān)于“夢想”的'詩歌有直接的聯(lián)系。

There is blood on the earth that denies ye bread;
Be your wounds like eyes
To weep for the dead, the dead, the dead.
What other grief were it just to pay?
Your sons, your wives, your brethren, were they;
Who said they were slain on the battle day?
起來，起來，起來吧！
不給你們面包的土地流著血水；
讓你們的傷口象眼睛
為那死去的、為那死去的落淚。
還有什么方法能傾瀉你們的悲傷？
那豈不是你們的兒子、妻子、兄弟，
說他們被殺死，在戰(zhàn)斗的日子里？
