1. The company， a major energy supplier in New England， provoked justified outrage in Vermont last week when it announced it was reneging on a longstanding commitment to abide by the strict nuclear regulations. （2012. 閱讀。 Text 2）

【譯文】在新英格蘭地區(qū)，一家主要能源供應商 Entergy 公司上周聲稱不準備兌現(xiàn)長期嚴格遵守核能法規(guī)的承諾，這在佛蒙特州理所當然激起了眾怒。

【析句】本句主句為The comapy provoked justified outrage，a major energy supplier……作the company的同位語，進一步解釋說明；when it announced作定語從句修飾last week，同時announced后it was reneging……作賓語從句，to abide by the strict nuclear regulations作后置定語修飾commitment.

2. Instead， the company has done precisely what it had long promised it would not challenge the constitutionality of Vermont‘s rules in the federal court， as part of a desperate effort to keep its Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant running. （2012. 閱讀。 Text 2）

【譯文】】相反，Entergy 公司做了他們一直承諾不會做的事情，在聯(lián)邦法庭對佛蒙特州的法規(guī)是否符合憲法提出了質疑，這是該公司為使佛蒙特州揚基核電站得以持續(xù)運作鋌而走險的做法之一。

【析句】本復合句有多重從句。句子的主干是the company has done what it had long promised it would……court，其中，what it had long promised是賓語從句，該從句中又包含省略了引導詞that的賓語從句it would not challenge……court，作promise的賓語。as part of a desperate effort作定語修飾challenge the constitutionality，定語中to keep its nuclear power plant running是不定式短語作目的狀語。

3. A string of accidents， including the partial collapse of a cooling tower in 2007 and the discovery of an underground pipe system leakage， raised serious questions about both Vermont Yankee‘s safety and Entergy’s management- especially after the company made misleading statements about the pipe. （2012. 閱讀。 Text 2）

【析句】多重復合句中，主句為A string of accidents raised serious questions about……，including the partial collapse……and the discovery……是現(xiàn)在分詞作定語，修飾accidents；破折號后，especially after the company made……作時間狀語從句，表示強調。
