Unit 6 Famous stories Teaching aims: Express opinions, facts, and common observations. Compare personal characterisrtics. Relate personal experience and opinions. Language focus: I like Monkey King the best. He is the most interesting character. She is more beautiful than Cinderella. Tasks: Write a paragraph about characters in famous stories. Listen and chant to practisse talking about personalities of characters. Step1: Pre-task stage Presentation 1. Bring in storybooks like Mulan, Journey to the West, Cinderella and Robin Hood to the class. 2. Hold the book Mulan and ask the students Who is this? 3. Ask the students to describe Mulan in English if possible. 4. Write the word smart, brave, hard-working on the board. Mulan is hard-working. She is brave and beautiful. Monkey King is brave and exciting. Cinderella is hard-working and beautiful. Robin Hood is very brave. 5. Ask the students to tell us the storybooks they have read and the characters they know. 6. Ask the students to work in groups of four to role-play the dialogue. They should continue it using the word and picture cues at the bottom of the page. Homework:1 Copy the new words and Part A. Collect one storybook you like best and say something about the characters. Step2: Presentation !. Tell the students about your favourite characters and describe them using the adjectives on page51. Snow White is the most character. Monkey King is the funniest character. Cinderella is the most hard-working character. Her mother and sisters were not good to her. Simba the Lion King is a young animal. His uncle is the most frightening character. 2.Write the words brave, hard-working, honest, kind, famous, interesting, funny, strong, exciting and beautiful. 3. Ask a student to pick a paper strip and ask them to talk about the character using the adjectives on the board without telling the class the name of the character. 4. Ask the class to guess who the character is. 5. Put the students into groups of four. Ask the students to tell each other about their favourite characters. They make notes like those in section B1 on a piece of paper. 6. Collect the notes from all the groups and find out the most popular charactes in the class. Homework: 1.Copy the text of part B1. 2. Write down the characters you like best. Step3:Story Nuwa fixes the sky 1. Point to the pictures. Ask the students if they know the story of Nuwa mending the sky. Nuwa is a woman. She is very kind and brave. She is very smart. She is helpful. She is very beautiful. 2. Explain that it is Chinese mythology. It is said that Nuwa created animals and human beings. 3. Nuwa also saved human beings by filling the gap in the sky. 4. She hence stopped the flood. 5. Ask the students to read the story again and answer the questions about the story. 6.
