Since the quality of honesty applies to all behaviors, one cannot refuse to consider factual information, for example, in an unbiased manner and still claim that one's knowledge, belief or position is an attempt to be truthful. Such a belie

f is clearly a product of one's desires and simply has nothing to do with the human ability to know. Basing one's positions on what one wants — rather than unbiased evidence gathering — is dishonest even when good intentions can be cited — after all even Hitler could cite good intentions and intended glory for a select group of people. Clearly then, an unbiased approach to the truth is a requirement of honesty.

Because intentions are closely related to fairness and certainly affect the degree of honesty/dishonesty, there is a wide spread confusion about honesty--and a general belief that being dishonest means that one ALWAYS correctly understands if their behavior is either honest or dishonest. Self-perception of our morality is non-static and volatile. It's often at the moment we refuse to consider other perspectives that there is a clear indication we are not pursuing the truth, rather than simply and exclusively at the moment we can muster up evidence that we are right. Socrates had much to say about truth, honesty and morality, and explained that if people really understood that their behavior was wrong — then they simply wouldn't do it — by definition. Unfortunately, honesty in the western tradition has been marginalized to specific instances — perhaps because a thorough understanding of honesty collides with ideologies of all types. Ideologies and idealism often exaggerate and suppress evidence in order to support their perspectives — at the eXPense of the truth. This process erodes the practice and understanding of honesty. To an ideologist the truth quite often becomes insignificant, what matters most are their ideals and what ever supports their desires to enjoy and spread those ideals.

Human beings are inherently biased about what they believe to be good due to individual tastes & backgrounds, but once one understands that a decidedly biased approach to what is true — is inherently dishonest, one can also understand how idealism and ideology have poorly served the quest for an honest, moral society. Both honesty and morality require that we base our opinions about what is good — upon unbiased ideas of what is TRUE — rather than vice versa (determining what is true based on what we feel is good) — the way all ideologies would have us believe.

It is a commonplace among moralists that you cannot get happiness bypursuing it。 This is only true if you pursue it unwisely。 Gamblers at MonteCarlo are pursuing money, and most of them lose it instead, but there are otherways of pursuing money which often succeed。 So it is with happiness。 If youpursue it by means of drink, you are forgetting the hang—over。 Epicurus pursuedit by living only in congenial society and eating only dry bread, supplementedby a little cheese on feast days。 His method proved successful in his case, buthe was a valetudinarian, and most people would need something more vigorous。 Formost people, the pursuit of happiness, unless supplemented in various ways, istoo abstract and theoretical to be adequate as a personal rule of life。 But Ithink that whatever personal rule of life you may choose it should not, exceptin rare and heroic cases,be incompatible with happiness。

There are a great many people who have all the material conditions ofhappiness,i。e。 health and a sufficient income, and who, nevertheless, areprofoundly unhappy。 In such cases it would seem as if the fault must lie with awrong theory as to how to live。 In one sense,we may say that any theory as tohow to live is wrong。 We imagine ourselves more different from the animals thanwe are。 Animals live on impulse, and are happy as long as external conditionsare favorable。 If you have a cat it will enjoy life if it has food and warmthand opportunities for an occasional night on the tiles。 Your needs are morecomplex than those of your cat,but they still have their basis in instinct。 Incivilized societies, especially in English—speaking societies, this is too aptto be forgotten。 People propose to themselves some one paramount objective, andrestrain all impulses that do not minister to it。 A businessman may be soanxious to grow rich that to this end he sacrifices health and privateaffections。 When at last he has become rich,no pleasure remains to him exceptharrying other people by exhortations to imitate his noble example。 Many richladies, although nature has not endowed them with any spontaneous pleasure inliterature or art, decide to be thought cultured, and spend boring hourslearning the right thing to say about fashionable new books that are written togive delight, not to afford opportunities for dusty snobbism。

If you look around at the men and women whom you can call happy, you willsee that they all have certain things in common。 The most important of thesethings is an activity which at most gradually builds up something that you areglad to see coming into existence。 Women who take an instinctive pleasure intheir children can get this kind of satisfaction out of bringing up a family。Artists and authors and men of science get happiness in this way if their ownwork seems good to them。 But there are many humbler forms of the same kind ofpleasure。 Many men who spend their working life in the city devote theirweekends to voluntary and unremunerated toil in their gardens, and when thespring comes, they experience all the joys of having created beauty。

The whole subject of happiness has,in my opinion, been treated toosolemnly。 It had been thought that man cannot be happy without a theory of lifeor a religion。 Perhaps those who have been rendered unhappy by a bad theory mayneed a better theory to help them to recovery, just as you may need a tonic whenyou have been ill。 But when things are normal a man should be healthy without atonic and happy without a theory。 It is the simple things that really matter。 Ifa man delights in his wife and children, has success in work, and finds pleasurein the alternation of day and night, spring and autumn,he will be happywhatever his philosophy may be。 If,on the other hand,he finds his wifefateful, his childrens noise unendurable, and the office a nightmare;if in thedaytime he longs for night, and at night sighs for the light of day, then whathe needs is not a new philosophy but a new regimen————a different diet,or moreexercise,or what not。

Man is an animal, and his happiness depends on his physiology more than helikes to think。 This is a humble conclusion, but I cannot make myself disbelieveit。 Unhappy businessmen,I am convinced, would increase their happiness more bywalking six miles every day than by any conceivable change of philosophy。

Eliminating or easing legal and cultural barriers so that more parents can make the choices that are right for their families is a core mission for our generation. We don’t label men “working men.” And it is my hope that by the time my daughter Arabella grows into a woman she will not be defined by whether she works inside or outside the home. She will simply be a woman, afforded the same opportunities as her male peers and equipped with the education and support she needs to fulfill her unique potential.

This is how I believe we will empower women – and in so doing, enable them to raise confident, empathetic, and ambitious sons and daughters, to propel unprecedented growth and job creation, and to cultivate a society that embraces the fullness of life, the dignity of work, and the gift of strong and flourishing families.

So today, I hope you will join me in imagining this future and working together to make it a reality- for our children, for our nations, and for the hope of a more vibrant and inclusive economy.

My favorite munity organizations play a big part in my education, High Fives Foundations Basics program being aizing hats and selling them. The people cliff-to-cliff. Skiing to me is freedom, and so is my education, its about being creative; doing things differently, its about community and helping each other. Its about being happy and healthy among my very best friends.

So Im starting to think, I know what I might want to do when I grow up, but if you ask me what do I want to be when I grow up? Ill always know that I want to be happy. Thank you.

Dearleaders and school fellows, good morning, today my speech is "Be a friend ofgood books and enjoy reading"!

Books are the ladders of human progress. A life without a book is likethe earth without sunshine. Reading is the foundation of our growth, reading isthe beginning of a wonderful life. Many great men in history are our rolemodels .

Premier Zhoustudied for a rising China. while Chairman Mao loved reading all his life.Whether it was in wartime or in peacetime, Chairman Mao would spare some timereading. He also made some comments where is necessary. When Luxun was young, hechewed hot peppers to keep from the cold. The world famous writer Gao erji onceread the books by moonlight on the top of the roof. The obsession with books, finally made him the masters of world literature. As gorky said books make meinto a happy man. Bing Xin said: " Reading is good, read more books andread often.

In theschool opening ceremony, Mr Li called on us to read, to explore and to research. In order to encourage students to read more, a variety of activities have beencarried out, such as sharing a good book with your parents and writing feelsfor them. Liu Junkai ‘s father from Class 3 Grade said in his reading notes, thanks to these meaningful reading activities, I began to realize theimportance of reading for a child, and I would like to help my son form acorrect reading habits from now on .

Thepleasure of reading brings us the most permanent power. Reading brings us peaceof mind, spiritual comfort. The classic verses will let us full of wisdom. Thehistorical documents will make us be well versed in both ancient and modern literature, the popular science books help us to be thoughtful.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen. It’s great to be here. First of all, thanks for your coming. Tonight, what I am gonna talk about is innovation. Who can tell me what is innovation? We all know that, since 1978, China has been through the greatest changes brought by the reform and openingxxup. So what we can see from the reform and openingxxup? The power of innovation. That’s why I am here. I am here to show you my Chinese dream. I want to talk about the future and how we're going to win it. If we want to make innovation. But firstly, we should make sure that China is a place where we can make it if we try, where we can go as far as hard work and big dreams will take us. We understand that it’s not going to be a cakewalk, this competition for the future, which means all of us are going to have to do our best. We are going to have to win the future by being smarter and working harder and working together. Innovation is the spirit of our country, the motive force for our country’s prosperity.

Sparking the imagination and creativity of our people, unleashing new discoveries xxthat's what China will do better than any other country on Earth. From the moment we have a new idea, we can explore it; we can develop it with a research grant; we can protect it with a patent; we can market it with a loan to start a new business. We’ve got a chain that takes a great idea all the way through. We must be confirmed that, today, the challenges we face are real.

They are serious they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But we will somehow find a way to overcome the difficulties. My major is xx. My job is to discover or create new drugs for many diseases like cancer. You know that laboratory is the place where miracles happen. Believe it or not. What I do can save millions of people’s lives. For a long time, what challenges me is how to commercialize research. You come up with a great idea, but moving that new discovery from theory to practice or from the lab to the marketplace, that's re ally a big job. That’s what we should focus on.

We need to act with a sense of urgencyxxto study and work and create as if the fate of the country depends on usxxbecause it does. It depends on us. Thank you!

good morning/evening/afternoon, ladies and gentlemen :

today, my speech is about talents,in my opionion, talents are indispensable in nowadays society. as is known to all that the fight among countries is actually the fight among talents.

first, i'd like to define the word"talent" in my idea, a talent is one person who is good at or expertised in some or multiple areas. nowadays, as the world developing goes on , if one country want to rank top or do a good job in the world, the country must have many talents.for example, china, the biggest developing country in the world, in the past 100 years, is always invaded by other countries, why ,the reason is that china at that time had not so many talents. if they had anti-intrusion leader talents in the war, needless to say, they would have beat those big powers.if they had talents in weapons manufacturing, nodody dares to provoke us.however, nowadays, it's a totally different situation, china has become powerfulin all over the world, why ?

because there are many talents serving the country, the civilians become more and more literated.more and more people go to university, more and more people come to receive further education. so what is that in return, talents in army protect our country from invasion, talents in commerce help make our economy keep in improving, talents in aerospace make the world see chinese manned spacecraft flying. talents in sports make china rank the first in the olympic games......

to sum up, talents will play a more and more impoetant role in the world, if one country intends to flourish, he must foster talents as many as they can ,that's all, thank you.

What is future?Every time I look at the stars in the sky,I ask myself. It’s realy a hard question to answer it.The universe is boundless,we don’t know where are we from and where shall we go.I stand there,at sea.

Last Sunday, there was a rain of meteors.I went to the belcony towait for their coming.Above my shoulder,it was the wind.Above the wind,it was the sky, huge and blue, with sparkling stars.Suddenly,a shooting star appeared.I hurried to pray for her happiness, staring at it.I wanted to pray for more, but it had already died out.I realised ,future is not carved on the meteors, but it’s now, around us.

When a fortune-teller look at your palm, she’ll tell you how your future will be like. That’s a way you place your hope on.But it’s not realistic. The future is the things and people around you. What you should do is to try to do everything well, don’t care much about the results.Be kind to all the people around you,and love them.Although the world is not full of love, the life is not a bed of rose, you should sdick on your belief. When time passes, you’ll find everything you do is worthwhile.

Years is glorious.Because no way you can stop time from elasping. How time flies!Just like the flowers in spring, the sunshine in summer, the moon in mid-autumn and the snow in winter.Maybe one morning you’ll never wake up,you’ll never see the suise or the sunset;you’ll never see your sweatheart or talk to her, you’ll never hear the sound of the nature or wander on the path among the trees, you’ll never swim in the lake or climb the mountains.

Time is gold.Every minute is precious. We should make best use of it.Don’t waste even one minute.Spend time in working,in laughing,in playing games and in loving.

Each of us has a kite flying in the sky,and we also have a string each.

Children’s kite is childhood, the string is grown.

Lovers’ kite is love, the string is daily life.

I have a kite,it is called dream, the string in my hands is reality.

The wind which makes kites fly is future.Kites are not free, but we still have power to control them and let them fly higher and higher. The string is in my hands, future is now in my hands.

Future is now, forget the fortune-teller,clench your fists!

Ladies and Gentlemen:

My topic is honesty Is Gold.Honesty means speakingthe truth and being fair and upright in act. He who lies and cheats is dishonest.: Those who gain fortunes not by hard labour but by other means is dishonest.Honesty is a good virtue. If you are honest all the time, you’ll be trusted and respected by others. A liar is always looked down upon and regarded as a black sheep by the people around. Once you lie, people will never believe you even if you speak the truth.

However, in the tide of commodity economy today, it seems that more and more people believe in money at the sacrifice of honesty. To them, among such things as health, beauty, m6ney, intelligence, honesty, reputation and talent, honesty is the only thing that can be east away. They don’t understand or pretend not to understand that honesty is the biggest fortune humans own, and that it is the prerequisite for doing everything well. I think these people areto be pitied.

In short, honesty is gold. Honest, your reputation will become great;dishonest, your name will be spoiled and your personality degraded. Therefore, we should never make such an excuse as "A little dishonesty is only a trifle thing. We should eradicate immediately the seed of dishonesty once it is sowed in our minds.

  Thank you.

For every person I’ve named, for every example I’ve cited, there are thousands of other Harvard citizens – students and alumni, faculty and staff – who are making the world better in more ways than we could possibly imagine. That is the power of this institution – not its brand, not our buildings, not our pomp and circumstance (as wonderful and terrific as that is). This University, Harvard, is its people – their aspirations, their achievements – their diversity of background, experience and thought – their desire to see beyond themselves and their devotion to serving others.

So, yes, I am an optimist. I’m an optimist because I live and work among all of you – because I see what you can do and because I know the boundless potential of what you can do. May we look to one another for inspiration in the years to come. May the expectations placed on us be exceeded only by our ability to meet them. And may Harvard continue to be a wellspring of hope for the world. It’s an honor to serve you as your president.

Congratulations to our newest alumni – and thank you to all.

Hello here! I’m Zhang , that’s my honor to see all of you sitting here listening to my words, I beg your patience for my blahblahblah, and today my topic of speech is ThisIs Me.

Nowadays, everything is changing unpredictable. And all of us seem to pay more attention to the others, to the society or to the things on the other side of the earth. But have we ever thought about those questions: What’s the most terrified thing for meCould I ever fight with my bad manners and did I ever communicate with myselfMaybe you’ll think that I’ve lost my mind asking those questions, but guys we modern people do need this ability——self-criticism or self-insight.

Chinese people have pursued our set way of the aim of life as“to be a man and hold a family then contribute to society”from ancient times. According to this, we can know obviously that “to be a man” has been regarded as the thing that a responsible adult should deal with, or we should say, aspire to be firstly.

As far as I could concern, “to be a man” not only means to show high moral standards, but to get well known about ourselves, yet we could hardly reach this standards by now because of the age or the lack of experience of living; however, things we can do would be more than just wandering around.

As Americans gather to celebrate this week, we show our gratitude for the many blessings in our lives. We are grateful for our friends and families who fill our lives with purpose and love. We're grateful for our beautiful country, and for the prosperity we enjoy. We're grateful for the chance to live, work and worship in freedom. And in this Thanksgiving week, we offer thanks and praise to the provider of all these gifts, Almighty God.

We also recognize our duty to share our blessings with the least among us. Throughout the holiday season, schools, churches, synagogues and other generous organizations gather food and clothing for their neighbors in need. Many young people give part of their holiday to volunteer at homeleshelters or food pantries. On Thanksgiving, and on every day of the year, America is a more hopeful nation because of the volunteers who serve the weak and the vulnerable.

The Thanksgiving tradition of compassion and humility dates back to the earliest days of our society. And through the years, our deepest gratitude has often been inspired by the most difficult times. Almost four centuries ago, the pilgrims set aside time to thank God after suffering through a bitter winter. George Washington held Thanksgiving during a trying stay at Valley Forge. And President Lincoln revived the Thanksgiving tradition in the midst of a civil war.

The past year has brought many challenges to our nation, and Americans have met every one with energy, optimism and faith. After lifting our economy from a recession, manufacturers and entrepreneurs are creating jobs again. Volunteers from acrothe country came together to help hurricane victims rebuild. And when the children of Beslan, Russia suffered a brutal terrorist attack, the world saw America's generous heart in an outpouring of compassion and relief.

The greatest challenges of our time have come to the men and women who protect our nation. We're fortunate to have dedicated firefighters and police officers to keep our streets safe. We're grateful for the homeland security and intelligence personnel who spend long hours on faithful watch. And we give thanks to the men and women of our military who are serving with courage and skill, and ma-ki-ng our entire nation proud.

Like generations before them, today's armed forces have liberated captive peoples and shown compassion for the suffering and delivered hope to the oppressed. In the past year, they have fought the terrorists abroad so that we do not have to face those enemies here at home. They've captured a brutal dictator, aided last month's historic election in Afghanistan, and help set Iraq on the path to democracy.

Our progrein the war on terror has made our country safer, yet it has also brought new burdens to our military families. Many servicemen and women have endured long deployments and painful separations from home. Families have faced the challenge of raising children while praying for a loved one's safe return. America is grateful to all our military families, and the families mourning a terrible lothis Thanksgiving can know that America will honor their sacrifices forever.

As Commander-in-Chief, I've been honored to thank our troops at bases around the world, and I've been inspired by the efforts of private citizens to expretheir own gratitude. This month, I met Shauna Fleming, a 15-year-old from California who coordinated the mailing of a million thank you letters to military personnel. In October, I met Ken Porwoll, a World War II veteran who has devoted years of his retirement to volunteering at a VA medical center in Minneapolis. And we've seen the generosity of so many organizations, like Give2theTroops, a group started in a basement by a mother and son that has sent thousands of care packages to troops in the field.

Thanksgiving reminds us that America's true strength is the compassion and decency of our people. I thank all those who volunteer this season, and Laura and I wish every American a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend.

  Thank you for listening.
