在本次亞運會田徑賽場上，劉翔無疑是名氣最大的明星，事實上在田徑運動以外，也很難找到國際影響力可與之相比的選手，今天，多哈亞運會官網(wǎng)專門用一篇篇幅很長的文章詳細介紹了劉翔成長為一名田徑巨星的經(jīng)歷，節(jié)選如下：

It was the first time he had ever run under 13 seconds, in training or racing. "Given the Asian physiology, few expected that a Chinese would ever be able to run under 13 seconds," he said. "I believe this is like a sort of miracle. What has happened is incredible, but I will keep on working very hard in the future and you can expect more miracles to happen."

The miracle form suddenly disappeared, however. Later in 2004 and in 2005 Xiang struggled to recover the world beating form that led to him equalling the world record in his Olympic run. At the 2005 IAAF World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, Xiang only achieved silver in a very tight race. Frenchman Ladji Doucoure won after battling with Allen Johnson in the middle lanes and just crossing the line ahead of Xiang. Doucoure won with 13.07, beating Xiang’s 13.08 by the tightest of margins.

But Xiang’s poor form did not last. In 2006 he was back to his gold-winning best, coming first at the World Athletics Final in Stuttgart and finally delivering a new world record at the Lausanne Super Grand Prix in Switzerland.
